Super Hollywood Dream Glasses

THE ASKMEN TAKE

One of the original labels to kick-start the trend for acetate eyewear, Super by Retrosuperfuture specs are beloved by music industry insiders, having been spotted on celebs ranging fromKanye West to the guys from Daft Punk, Justice and Simian Mobile Disco. With their Hollywood dream glasses, the Italian label proves they’ve still got it. Featuring a mixture of artistically marbled brown and gold stripes, these glasses are ideal for combining with earth tones, so try wearing them with a chocolate brown suit, a chunky cream cable knit sweater or chestnut-hued leather accessories.

UNIQUENESS

If you’re not an avid collector of eyewear, these glasses will dramatically alter the look of all your usual ensembles. If you are in the habit of frequently switching up your eyewear, Super’s glasses are definitely cool enough to make it into your regular accessories rotation. The ultra-thick lines of the frames will help you make a bold impression while also imbuing your outfit with a touch of geek chic -- although the color palette is sophisticated enough to ensure you come off as more professional than broke hipster. The best part is that you don’t even need to have impaired vision to wear these because the lenses are plastic, relegating them to the territory of fashion accessories. Finally, for guys who shrink away from announcing what they’re wearing to everyone, Retrosuperfuture prints their labels on the inside arms of their frames, keeping the branding subtle.

DURABILITY

These classic frames with a retro-modern twist are handcrafted in Italy to some rather exacting standards. As such, you can rest assured you’re getting a good deal when it comes to quality. With regards to longevity, these glasses are more versatile than they might first appear. Thanks to their neutral hue, they won’t ever really go out of style. Though the geek chic look waxes and wanes, it has never disappeared completely since its inception, so even if you’re on the fringe of stylishness, you’ll never be out of fashion when sporting these glasses. The only downside to this eyewear is that plastic frames are more delicate than titanium models, so you’ll want to avoid leaving these lying around. When it comes to price, compared to similar designer lines, these are much more affordable, although not necessarily worth it if you’ll only wear them a few times.

Super Sunglasses

THE ASKMEN TAKE

This item appears in our Fall Fashion Preview 2009.

White plastic is hot these days in men’s accessories, a trend we can’t help but attribute to our buddy Kanye West. Big white watches from Casio and ToyWatch have been by Kanye’s side for a while now, but with Super Sunglasses’ New York Classics in white, we are about to enter a whole new realm of urban-funk chic.

UNIQUENESS

Super Sunglasses weren’t happy just being the “it” brand of young Hollywood; they went ahead and designed something really unique with the New York Classics model. Covering the flat front frames is a raised black pattern. It has taken the white trend of sunglasses and added a new level of individuality to it. These glasses are not for everyone, but for those with enough style to pull them off, we can guarantee a lot of face time for these Supers.

DURABILITY

All Super Sunglasses are made of high grade Italian acetate. In fact, Super claims to have started the colored acetate trend. As with most contemporary fashion trends, Supers first hit the streets in Milan and, while the rest of the world catches up, they seem to have already moved on. The design of the New York Classics may be cool in Hollywood right now, but we’re not so sure we’ll think the same 12 months from now. One very positive attribute about all Supers is that they use legendary Zeiss lenses, adding a sense of tradition and value to an otherwise purely trend-driven set of shades.
