Stussy Cab Sunglasses

THE ASKMEN TAKE

In addition to the ability to do everything a pair of basic black sunglasses should, including complement everything you wear with them, these Italian-made plastic shades from Stussy have an extra edge that will set you apart from everyone else. Subtle (yet funky), contrasting white detailing on the arms and bridge gives these sunnies a retro sportswear vibe that will make the rest of your apparel seem a little more fun and your style a little more effortless. Pair them with anything from hoodies to a sleek suit.

UNIQUENESS

What makes this eyewear unique is that the design is essentially a modern spin on a classic. Because they’re black and have an aviator feel about them, they’re appropriate for all occasions, whether you’re dressing up or down. And while the white color blocking is definitely noticeable, it’s aesthetically appealing rather than overly trendy, so you’ll look just cool enough when you wear these shades. The quality of these sunglasses is an additional point of interest because it approaches something usually offered by more upscale labels. Because this eyewear is priced much lower, however, it makes swish designer looks more within your reach.

DURABILITY

Functionally speaking, these shades guarantee you 100% UVA and UVB protection. They also feature shatterproof lenses, so they’re perfect if you’re a bit clumsy and have been known to accidentally sit on your sunglasses. Given these two elements of design, this pair of sunnies should last you several years and you won’t need to confine them to any particular season. Style-wise, the ‘80s feel of these shades makes them so hot right now, and because the white detailing isn’t over-the-top, you should be able to wear these even when the ‘80s revival craze is over. If the price seems a bit steep to you, consider that while it’s true that you can certainly find similar sunglasses at a lower price point, their quality won’t be as high.

Oliver Peoples Alter-Ego

HE ASKMEN TAKE

This item appears in our Fall Fashion Preview 2009.

Choosing good eyewear is as important as choosing anything in your wardrobe. After all, your eyeglasses sit right on your most visible asset -- your face. These classic frames from Oliver Peoples can do no wrong: they are sharp enough to be worn with a tuxedo and durable enough to be worn to the gym. This is a perfect all-around frame for the perfect all-around man.

UNIQUENESS

While the style of the Oliver Peoples Alter Ego won’t set the fashion world aflame, they are distinguished and subtly unique. They feature interesting tapered arms that fit snugly into a laminated temple-end. They are also designed with a smaller fit in mind and give off an understated look on the face, which is contrary to the current trend of oversize plastic frames.

DURABILITY

All Oliver Peoples eyeglasses are designed and handmade in Japan. It is the legendary style and durability of its glasses that have elevated Oliver Peoples to the highest level of acceptance for any fashion item: popularity in Hollywood. Oliver Peoples’ frames can be found on everyone from Brad Pitt to Angelina Jolie, and the Alter Ego model has a great look, so, you're sure to be seeing them on the red carpet soon. They feature reinforced hypoallergenic titanium temples, so even if Oliver Peoples becomes passe, the Alter Ego will still be standing strong on your face.

Oakley Polarized Dispatch

THE ASKMEN TAKE

Nobody does athletic eyewear like Oakley, and its new polarized dispatch model is the latest and greatest in the line of casualmen's sunglasses. Its most dynamic shades to date, the Oakley Polarized Dispatch model, is customizable from every angle; even the now iconic Oakley “O” on the side can be swapped out for different colors to add your own  personal touch. These oversize plastic shades are casual and cool, just like a pair of Oakley sunglasses should be.

 UNIQUENESS

From a design perspective, the Oakley Polarized Dispatch model isn't pushing any limits; but, with what you can do with these shades, they are a world apart. From the customization of the Oakley emblem to the lightweight “O Matter” frame material and the high definition optics, these aren’t your typical sport shades. In fact, these glasses are polarized and offer some of the highest precision available in eyewear, which is especially cool because it's housed in the typical Oakley fashion of oversize, athletic frames.

 DURABILITY

Like most shades from Oakley, these aren’t exactly refined. The look is juvenile, and really designed to be worn on the beach or while playing sports. That said, from a technology standpoint, the polarized dispatch model is impressive. It offers 99% polarization, 100% UVA filtering and the option to put Oakley’s own brand of prescription lenses in them is made available. The frames are made from a lightweight, durable material and even provide optimized peripheral viewing -- not too bad for under $200.
