Naked & Famous Denim Python Belt

THE ASKMEN TAKE

Naked and Famous Denim has all of the makings of an underground label: a relatively unknown name, limited distribution and a website that looks like it could have been made in a high school HTML class. The label started just over a year-and-half ago under the guidance of 25-year-old, Montreal-based designer Brandon Svarc. In the short time since the label launched, N & FD has been growing from a quiet whisper among fashion insiders to the gold standard in premium, raw Japanese denim -- and all at a price lower than competitors with inferior fabrics. But if N & FD is still flying low on the radar in the men’s jeans department,  itssuits, ties and belts are barely a blip on the screen.

That shouldn’t last for long if this python belt has anything to do with it.

UNIQUENESS

Finding a quality men’s belt that isn’t the same ho-hum black or brown from Prada (or Gucci or Ferragamo) is near impossible. Even worse, those varieties have limited usability. They’re friendly for business attire and the occasional special event, but they aren’t so buddy-buddy with denim. If you thought they were, think again. While dressed-up jeans can call for an equally erudite belt, you can get more mileage -- and looks -- out of this grayish-white python number from Naked and Famous Denim. The belt straddles the line between formal and fun depending upon how you wear it, and interestingly enough, for a belt made of snakeskin it’s actually pretty manly.

73 DURABILITY

If Naked and Famous Denim’s commitment to producing quality men’s jeans is any indication of the rest of the gems in the collection, this belt is a fail-safe bet. It’s made from quality reticulated (read: big, scary and dangerous) python and fortified with a luxurious suede backing. The distressed metal buckle gives it the kind of bite you’d expect from a belt made out of the longest snake in the world.
