Splitting Hairs: Tips to Fight the Dreaded Split Ends!

Split ends are two words every hair god/goddess fears most. They rank up there with the words frizz, flat and greasy as the most dreaded hair descriptors ever!

The Facts:

Split ends occur when the cuticle protecting the ends of your strands wears away or is stripped off, causing your hair to tear.  These tears in your tresses are what we commonly refer to as split ends.  Though split ends are a fact of life for most, they are less likely to occur in well-maintained and well-conditioned hair.  There are actually a few super simple things you can do to reduce your chances of dealing with the split. Check them out!

Causes and Preventions:

There are a number of elements that can cause or increase the chances of split ends, but there are even more things you can do to help prevent them.  Check out the graphic below:

Treat Them Right

When it comes to treating your split ends, the only sure fire way to get rid of those pesky tears is to cut them off.  Contrary to popular belief, products that claim to actually repair split ends are really only masking the damage.  While they may coat and smooth your tresses, they cannot truly repair the tear.  It is important that you get ends trimmed early and often so the split can’t continue further up the hair shaft.
Remember, your hair is your crowning jewel – take care of it wisely!
